Megan Roth, owner of Mainstreet Bake Shop, always loved the idea of owning her own bakery. She figured it would happen later in life after getting a little more established. But, after eight years of making wedding cakes in her parent's kitchen and becoming the pastry chef at Hotel Saxonburg, an ever growing list of repeat customers started developing. Then along came the opportunity to open her own place and with a leap of faith she went for it. On September 6, 2014 Ms. Roth's dream became a reality and Mainstreet Bake Shop opened its doors for the first time.
As a Saxonburg, PA native, it only made sense to establish her bakery in downtown Saxonburg. "I grew up here, went to high school here, worked and got married here," she says. "I couldn't imagine having it anyplace else."
One reason for Roth's early success? Everything is homemade. From the breakfast menu items to the cakes made from scratch, to the homemade pies, nothing is pre-made. "I want everything to be fresh, that is why I require a lot of my creations to be pre-ordered."
Mainstreet Bake Shop also provides items to other businesses around the area including Hotel Saxonburg, Saxonburg Coffee Co., Hardwood Café, and Monroe Hotel.
Mainstreet Bakes Shop is also a two time award winning bakery. In the years 2015, and 2016 Megan's desserts won "People's Choice Best Dessert" at the Glass Slipper Ball event held at the Double Tree in Cranberry, PA.
